The revision column is meant to describe (name) the state of the
revision version, if there is one. There is color coding for each
state too, but what the color means is displayed in text in the
revision column.
There are three possible revision states, plus none:
+ draft
+ pending (approval)
+ approved (but not published yet)
none: meaning there is no new version in progress
A document that is or was published shows up in the published
column. The text link shows as the date of publication (plus the
expiration, if there is one), and links to the public page. If a
document is closed, it is listed in this column as 'closed'.
The pulished column shows the two possible public states:
+ published
+ closed
If there is a published or closed version, it may or may not
have a new version in progress. If not, the revision column
shows 'none'. If so, the current state of the revision
is listed.
We could name the public state in the revision column (published
or closed) as opposed to saying none, but really this column
only addresses revisions, not published conditions. Would it be
better to have nothing in the column in place of none? Then
we lose the link to the publish screen of the document, but
that's not so serious.
Any ideas are welcome; this is a complex screen.
